Youth Player Restrictions at the Red Rock Open

Sunday, October 12, 2025

As preparations continue for the upcoming Red Rock Open at the Rodd Royalty, the PEI Darts Association would like to address an important matter regarding participation by youth players and the regulations set forth by the Prince Edward Island Liquor Control Commission. Under current provincial laws, youth are not permitted to play or be present in any area where alcohol is sold or consumed. These rules are strict and allow no exceptions, and it is important to note that PEI liquor laws differ from those in other provinces, limiting flexibility when organizing mixed-age events.

Because of these regulations, youth players will not be permitted in the courtyard or the Crowbush Room, as both areas will have alcohol service available. To ensure youth competitors can still fully participate, the Winsloe Room will be designated as an alcohol-free area for the duration of the event. This means no alcohol will be permitted or consumed in the Winsloe Room at any time. All youth players will play exclusively in this room, and we understand this is different than the past two years, but these measures are necessary to comply with provincial liquor laws. Because youth are not allowed in the courtyard, an adult must register them for their events at the control table.

Youth participants will only be allowed within the Winsloe Room and must return to their accommodations or leave the premises once their play has concluded. They will not be permitted to watch matches or events taking place in the courtyard or Crowbush Room. The PEI Darts Association recognizes that this may cause inconvenience or disappointment for players and spectators, but these regulations are beyond the Association’s control and must be followed to ensure compliance.

If these restrictions influence a decision not to attend and accommodations at the Rodd Royalty have already been booked, guests are asked to inform the hotel that the cancellation is specifically due to the youth liquor law restrictions. This feedback will help ensure venue partners understand the impact of these regulations on youth participation. The PEI Darts Association appreciates everyone’s understanding and cooperation as we continue to provide a positive and inclusive experience for all players.
