President's Report, 2019 AGM
In October of 2018, with the majority support of dart players in PEI, the group of individuals in front of you today set out to build a new foundation for the sport of darts on PEI. The dissolution of the previous organization left an obvious void in our sport and I am happy today to sit before you and bring forward the number of changes and achievements we have been able to attain.
The PEIDA now has an official signed Constitution, which will govern our path forward as an organization. It has been signed by the appointed Board Members before you as well as our legal experts.
Also, the PEIDA is now an incorporated business, which allows us to make sound and binding decisions on behalf of our Membership in the best interest of our sport. We will now have the structure needed to be the official PEI representation of our sport while being fiscally responsible and transparent. We have also become the official provincial affiliate of the NDFC.
We have been successful in signing up our very first members. Although the window of opportunity was tight and the numbers are relatively modest at this point, it is a major step forward and I hope that our actions and commitment will entice even more people to sign up next year and in the future.
The PEIDA has successfully received multiple corporate sponsors whose generosity has afforded the organization the chance to purchase supplies to begin building portable stands for tournaments, among other things. We have organized a very successful dart tournament in Summerside recently which was a great fundraising activity. Also, just last week, we received our lottery license and have partnered with the Summerside Legion for a Chase the Ace fundraiser event. None of this would be possible without the help of our Executive Board and the Membership.
Even though we have made great strides, we have a long road ahead. With the foundation laid and our Executive Board now officially elected, we now need to continue our fundraising efforts and step up involvement as a whole. I call on the Membership to participate where they can and help us build this organization into what I know it can be. PEI can be a leader in our sport but a strong and dedicated membership is required to achieve those goals.
Stephen Clow, President PEIDA
